Sureway School of Swimming will ensure staff are fully qualified and hold current DBS Disclosure. All staff will demonstrate they have suitable insurance cover, and relevant child protection training.
All teaching staff will be aware of health and safety issues relating to individual pupils.
A trained Life Guard will be in attendance during all sessions, and all staff will be familiar with the emergency operating procedure for the swimming pool being used.
Facilities are available, and parents are encouraged to stay with their child/children for the duration of the lesson/lessons (at both Bedford Girls’ School and Bedford School there is adequate pool-side seating)
Trained staff will be able to recognise the symptoms of possible child abuse and know what to do in such instances. Staff will investigate any noticeable changes in children’s behaviour in accordance with the Children’s Act, and local authority guidelines. Any concerns will be passed on to the school’s proprietor (welfare officer) who will liaise with outside agencies as necessary. All allegations or suspicions of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to quickly, and appropriately
The staff will take all reasonable measures to protect children from harm, discrimination, bullying (verbal and physical) degrading acts, and all staff will respect children’s rights, wishes and feelings.
